The President Congratulates Buehrle On Perfect Game, Nothing Better To Do?

By Ryan Hogan

On Thursday, Chicago White Sox starter Mark Buehrle pitched the 18th perfect game in baseball history, and the second no-hitter of his career, after he retired 27 Tampa Bay Rays hitters in-a-row.

Now tied for first place in the AL Central Division, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Rays 5-0.

Buehrle threw 116 pitches and struck out six. He also got a fantastic defense play from DeWayne Wise in the ninth inning. The centerfielder turned a home run into an out and preserved the perfect game bid.

The 30-year-old Mark Buehrle became only the second pitcher to throw two no-hitters for the White Sox.

While all this is great for Buehrle, we are concerned that he received a phone call from President Obama congratulating him on his perfect game. We think the President acted “stupidly.”

Doesn’t the leader of the free world have better things to do then call baseball players?

Apparently dealing with the recession, terrorism, health care reform, and illegal immigrants leaves one with plenty of spare time to work the phones.

Is the President in the White House laying on his bed with feet in the air and a phone to his ear like a teenage girl? He’s twirling his gum with his off hand while flipping through the latest copy of Baseball Digest.

“Hey Mark, this is Barry. Nice job tonight on the mound. So who do you like?”

While he’s at it, Jason Werth went 3-for-5 tonight maybe he should get fax? The Mariners’ staff combined to throw a three-hitter, why doesn’t he send them all a text?

It’s great that Buehrle threw a perfect game but it’s a regular season win in July. It means no more in the standings than a 10-9 victory. Save the presidential phone calls for championships.

We understand the President is a sports fan and we understand that he’s a White Sox fan. We also understand that the President needs leisure time. It just seems to us that this President enjoys being Celebrity-in-Chief more than he enjoys being Commander-in-Chief.
