Michael Vick: Which NFL Team Will Sign Him (UPDATE)
NOTE: Michael Vick has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. For more on this story please click here.
People close to former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick beleive his return to the NFL is imminent. However, every team in the NFL seems dead set against signing the troubled lad.
In June, Bombastic Sports examined each NFL team and qualified their chance of inking the athletic QB to contract. We revisit our survey and add a slew of links to teams’ expressing their disinterest in the beleaguered Vick. Of course we all know the biggest liars in God’s creation are NFL executives and coaches. Surely, one of the teams denying interest in Vick will be the team to acquire his talents.

Michael Vick has been cleared by the NFL to play the last two preseason games and regular season games starting Week 6.
Pittsburgh Steelers ambiguous on Vick.
No Chance Vick signs with Washington Redskins.
New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick haven’t ruled Vick in or out.
Green Bay Packers wouldn’t confirm they are looking at Vick.

Cincinnati Bengals have no interest in Vick.
Miami Dolphins declare they have no interest in Vick.
New York Jets and Giants say they won’t sign Vick.
Detroit Lions have no interest in Vick.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback would welcome Vick.
Sources close to the team say the Minnesota Vikings have no interest in Vick.
New Orleans Saints have no plans to bring Vick aboard.
Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans not interested in Vick.
Carolina Panthers Coach Noncommittal On Vick.
Dallas Cowboys have no plans for Vick.
| Team | Chances | Logic |
| Arizona Cardinals | Medium | Cards have leadership, veterans and two quarterbacks. Adding Vick to mix as 3rd string QB might be worth a gamble. |
| Atlanta Falcons | None | Owner Arthur Blank has already said it’s not going to happen and it shouldn’t. Both parties need to move on. |
| Baltimore Ravens | Low | Team finally has a franchise quarterback, why plague Joe Flacco by having Vick breathing down his neck. |
| Buffalo Bills | High | With Vick and Terrell Owens the team would have dueling media circus. Maybe the two combined would help take the pressure off the other. The Bills want to win now, took chance on Owens so why not Vick. Who know, Vick might not be far from overtaking erratic Trent Edwards on the depth chart. |
| Carolina Panthers | Medium | QB Jake Delhomme isn’t getting younger and their backups are nice but not great. Gambling on Vick returning to his previous form coupled with Steve Smith, could entice Panther brass to pull the trigger. |
| Chicago Bears | Low | Why even bother when you added the mentally fragile Jake Cutler. You have your franchise quarterback, forget about Vick and work on getting Cutler ready to play in Lambeau. |
| Cincinnati Bengals | High | Why would a team crippled by character issues take a chance on a guy that’s the poster boy for character issues? Because you’re the Bengals. |
| Cleveland Browns | Low | Browns are having a enough problems sorting out Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. Besides, how could you explain signing Vick to the Dog Pound? |
| Dallas Cowboys | Low | Prior to last season, Vick going to Dallas would have been a sure thing. But now it appears owner Jerry Jones has realized the value of character and chemistry. |
| Denver Broncos | Medium | Even sitting out for two seasons and eating prison food, Vick may still be a better quarterback than either Kyle Orton or Chris Simms. Gambling on Vick could prove to be a cost effective QB fix. |
| Detroit Lions | Low | You don’t want a guy with Vick’s past anywhere near your rookie quarterback, and face of the franchise, Matthew Stafford. Dante Culpepper and his past are bad enough. |
| Green Bay Packers | Zero | Playing in Green Bay is like playing in a fish bowl. This is the last place Vick needs to be. Plus, Green Bay fans are still upset at Vick for leading the Falcons past the Packers, in Lambeau no less, in a 2002 Wildcard game. |
| Houston Texans | High | This has less to do with being a good personnel fit and more of going to a low profile team. Despite being America’s fourth largest metropolitan area Houston’s football team is hardly ever on national television and hardly ever in the national spotlight. The anonymity would be great for Vick. |
| Indianapolis Colts | Low | Tony Dungy visited Vick in prison. He’s no longer their head coach, but there is a link, rather flimsy, between the franchise and Vick. The Colts are a model franchise and Peyton Manning is a model quarterback. Vick would be lucky to be on this team. He might not get to play, but it would be the perfect environment. |
| Jacksonville Jaguars | High | Jack Del Rio is a no nonsense coach and they could use a backup quarterback. Vick gets to stay in the south. |
| Kansas City Chiefs | Medium | The Chiefs could use another back-up quarterback. Unlike some other teams that just acquired quarterbacks and don’t need Vick around to possible create problems, the Chiefs news quarterback Matt Cassell seems impervious to such distractions. |
| Miami Dolphins | Medium | With their propensity to run the wildcat formation and iron will of Executive Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells signing Vick appears like it would be mutually beneficial. |
| Minnesota Vikings | Low | Minnesota has been trying to clean up image, acquiring Vick would go a long way to contradict that. That’s not to say Vick will automatically be a bad citizen in Minnesota, juts this isn’t the type of person the Vikings need on their roster, despite the fact that they need a quarterback. |
| New England Patriots | Zero | Like the Colts, the Patriots would give Vick the structure, role models and discipline he needs. The Pats will also maximize Vick’s skills to the fullest. However, this seems like the last thing the Pats would do. they aren’t in the business of reclamation projects, they’re in the business of winning Super Bowls. |
| New Orleans Saints | Medium | Drew Brees is one of the best leaders in sports. He would not be deterred or threaten by Vick. Coach Sean Payton is an offensive guru and would utilize Vick to his fullest. |
| New York Giants | Low | After the past year with Plaxico Burress, Vick is the last guy they want on their roster. |
| New York Jets | Low | A) Rex Ryan wouldn’t want to give up the spotlight if the team signed Vick. B) Last place Vick needs to be is in New York. |
| Oakland Raiders | Low | This seems like a no-brainer. Raiders leads the league in reclamation projects. However, if the Raiders were going to acquire the services of Michael Vick they would have already traded a number one pick for him. The Raiders believe in second chances but we never said they were smart about it. |
| Philadelphia Eagles | Medium-High | Donavan McNabb would be a great role model for Vick. Coach Andy Reid understand young people and their bad choices. This would be a great situation for Vick. As for the Eagles, they get a player similar to recently injury prone McNabb. |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | Low-Medium | Steelers are a no-nonsense franchise. Ben Roethlisberger won’t be looking over his shoulder. And who knows, maybe Vick can follow in the foot steps of former Steelers Kordell Stewart and become the next “Slash.” Still, doesn’t seem like something the Steelers would do. |
| San Diego Chargers | Low | This team has enough trouble keeping their heads straight and their minds focus. The media circus surrounding Vick won’t help at all and this fragile team certainly won’t help Vick. |
| San Francisco 49′ers | Low | Your former first overall draft pick, quarterback Alex Smith, is having his best offseason of his career. In 2010, the franchise will try to salvage him, not Vick. |
| Seattle Seahawks | Highest | If we had to place money on which team will sign Vick it would be the Seahawks and the reason is their new head coach, and former Falcons coach, Jim Mora Jr. Yes, he said the team wasn’t interested, but we all know a coach’s word isn’t worth a plum nickel. After Matt Hasselbeck the team has a serviceable backup quarterback in Senaca Wallace, who’s is pretty much a Vick clone. Playing in Alaska and away from the media would certainly help Vick. |
| St. Louis Rams | High | After Marc Bulger and Stephen Jackson we can’t name one other Rams players. Vick would at least give this team a draw. |
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Zero | Normally we’d say this would be a good fit and a possibility, but the Bucs have five quarterbacks on their roster already. |
| Tennessee Titans | Zero | Head coach Jeff Fisher would do a world of good for Vick but this franchise has their hands full with Vince Young. If Kerry Collins rattled Young just think what Vick will do to him. |
| Washington Redskins | Low | The Redskins would love to add Vick but only if they could overpay for his services. Nonetheless, Jason Campbell is mental fragile. They have Todd Collins as backup and they signed Chase Daniel. They also have Colt Brennan. Then again maybe they could use another great college quarterback. |
| UFL | Medium | It’s not where he wants to play, but then again he would be playing. Put in some work with the new upstart pro league and before you know it some GM of some sorry franchise comes calling. The UFL will dote over Vick, which won’t be good for his rehabilitation, but this route could potentially lead to a bigger NFL contract than the one he’s currently facing. |
