Pardon the Interruption (10-06-09)

By Ryan Hogan

Tony Kornhesier revealed that he “sexted” Brett Favre last night. Today on the show, Tony and Mike talked about Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Bobby Bowden, Braylan Edwards and Rush Limbaugh. Tony and Mike spent Five Good Minutes with Bernard Berrian. In one story, Tony says (for the umpteenth time) said LeBron James is going to New York and Mike dropped a name (Edwards).

Pardon the Interruption stars Tony Kornhesier and Mike Wilbon. It's seen everyday at 2:30pm PDT on ESPN.

HEADLINES

How Great Was Favre?
Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings defeat Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Mike: He threw a perfect game. He was as good as it gets. Brett Favre was on it let Brett Favre was on it.
Tony: I think this will be the high water mark of the season. He tried to maneuver himself in this position for two years. Favre is fueled by vanity and anger.

  • “Tony continues his assault on Favre. Wilbon provides solid analysis.”
  • Are Packers In Trouble?
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen had four and half sacks of the Vikings eight sacks.

Mike: Green Bay didn’t play all that badly, Vikings are just better. Rodgers played great.
Tony: It’s fair to compare Favre and Rodgers. It may have been personal. Allen has 30 sacks in last two years.

  • “Agree with their assessment. Rodgers is a good quarterback he just doesn’t have the team around him like Favre”
  • Time For Bobby To Go?
FSU makes overtures to remove Bobby Bowden.

Mike: I don’t take this lightly. He’s everything to FSU and I don’t think anyone should say anything about him leaving.
Tony: You can’t fire him and you can’t run him out. You have to try and convince him.

  • “Kornheiser and Wilbon are too kind. If Bowden can’t get it done he should be fired, regardless of what he’s done for the program.”
  • LeBron & Edwards Beefing?
A friend of LeBron James gets into fight with Braylon Edwards.

Mike: I don’t get this. I’ve been out with Edwards in Cleveland. He’s a visable guy. He’s been a great host. To all of sudden to hear his beef, I don’t know what to think.
Tony: You can not go up against James in Cleveland. Maybe next year if he moves to New York but you can’t do it now.

  • “The daily double: Mike drops a name and Tony says James is going to New York.”
  • Interested In Buying Rams?
Rush Limbaugh interested in buying Rams.

Mike: The NFL would agree to this in a half second. I’m betting that Limbaugh shares the politics with many NFL Owners although they don’t publicly offend people with “glee.” Could you see Limbaugh hugging brothers after the game?
Tony: If they ask him about Donovan McNabb he’ll say he’s a entertainer. He’s got bucks.

  • “Mike is the last person to drop a “glee” bomb on Limbaugh. Mike has the worst politics ever. Tony was a non-factor in this story.”

    FIVE GOOD MINUTES

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian

    1. Favre was calm, cool and collected. He looked like vintage Favre.
    2. On the days leading up to the game he was the same old Brett.
    3. Before the game, Favre addressed the team by sayings, “do I have to say something?”
    4. Win meant something special to him. At beginning of season Favre said he was in Minnesota to win.
    5. We’re not seeing as much down the field “we’re going to talk about that.” [laughs]. “I don’t want to say he’s managing the game.”
    6. Concerns were that Favre wasn’t a good teammate. Once we got to know him we realize that’s not the truth. He’s like a 12-year old kid.
    7. I did grow tired of drama of the “will he”/”won’t he” drama. But now it’s all positive.
    8. Jared is a funny character.
    9. I think Tony’s beard is better than Childress’ beard.
  • “They spent too much time on Favre, but Berrian was a good interview.”

    TOSS UP!

More Impressive So Far: Giants Or Colts?

Mike: Both these teams have been impressive. If I was doing a ranking, opps I do, I’m going to give it to the Colts.
Tony: Neither team has played a particular hard scheduled. I’m going to say the Giants.

  • “Echoing the sentiment of Wilbon, how shocking that Tony picked the team from New York.”
  • Who Would You Rather Have As Your Quarterback: Romo or Orton?

Mike: If you used a combined you’re going to pick Romo. Then you say the other guy keeps winning. I take Orton. I know it sounds crazy.
Tony: Orton has no interception and team is 4-0. Romo has 4 interception and his team is 2-2. At the present time it’s Orton.

  • “They couldn’t get over how crazy it sounds to pick Orton over Romo. Maybe it’s not crazy at all. Orton wins games.”
  • Who will end up with more catches this season: Michael Crabtree or Darrius Heyward-Bey?

Mike: It’s too late in the year even if Crabtree signs today. The answer is Bey but not by much.
Tony: DHB got Crabtree’s money. Right now he has more names than catches. If Crabtree signs it’s Crabtree. He’s only two behind Bey.

  • “As bad as the Raiders are the answer has to be DHW. Crabtree isn’t even on a NFL team.”
  • Who Will Have The Bigger Posteason: Manny or Papi?

Mike: Manny is unpredictable. He can still carry a team and he’s done it more recently than Papi. I have Manny.
Tony: I think the Cardinals can beat the Dodgers and I think the Red Sox can make the ALCS. Manny has an injury hand. I’ll take Big Papi.

  • “Tony can’t even fathom the Red Sox losing in the first round.”

    HAPPY, HAPPY

Happy 54th birthday to Tony Dungy.
Happy anniversary to Houston Texans. On this day 10 years ago the city of Houston was awarded a franchise.
Happy trails to Josh Wicks. The DC United goalkeeper suspended 10 games for deliberating stomping on player.

    ERRORS

Reali: Bobby Bowden has 384 all-time wins. Kyle Orton win-loss record is 21-12. His home win-loss record is 17-2.

    WHAT TO WATCH

Mike: To the Metrodome, could be Twins last game in that building.
Tony: Arena’s Very Good Breakfast. It’s a deli.
