Pardon the Interruption (01-21-10)

By Ryan Hogan

Bam! Dan Le Batard in for Wilbon today. Today on the show, Tony and Dan talked about Jets/Colts, Kurt Warner, the Pro Bowl, Lakers/Cavs, and Glenn Davis. Tony and Dan spent Five Good Minutes with Ron Jaworski and then played Odds Makers! As always, Le Batard completely ruined the game. Another highlight of the show was Tony’s rant against the Most Valuable Puppets. His tirade made him sound like a bitter, old, pantless curmudgeon.

Pardon the Interruption stars Tony Kornhesier and Mike Wilbon. It's seen everyday at 2:30pm PDT on ESPN.

Pardon the Interruption stars Tony Kornheiser (left), former columnist for The Washington Post, and Mike Wilbon (right), current columnist for The Washington Post. PTI is seen everyday at 2:30pm PDT on ESPN.

HEADLINES

QB Mismatch?
Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez facing off against Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning.

Dan: We have no idea if Sanchez is any good. This is the team the Colts want to play.
Tony: Sanchez has gotten better as season progressed. When Manning retires he’ll probably go down as the best ever. I get why people want Sanchez to be good but his numbers don’t match up against Manning.

  • “Decent analysis and both recited statistics.”

  • Struggling With Retirement Decision?
Kurt Warner struggling with retirement decision.

Dan: What Kurt Warner would miss most is the three hours of game time.
Tony: You can’t ask for the strength to give up the game by asking not to love it anymore. He’s done it his whole life and it’s not easy to retire.

  • “The hosts were a little all over the place but we are glad that they addressed how tough a decision is to retire.”
  • LE BATARD:2 KORNHEISER:2
  • Losing Star Power?
Is the Pro Bowl losing star power?

Dan: And insulting to fans. And insulting to players. Jake Long has been in league a couple of years and he doesn’t want to play. Are there going to be guys in the Pro Bowl you’ve never heard of?
Tony: No body cares about this game. NFL shouldn’t stress about this. The NFL will ultimately have to understand that we’ll put it on but no one will care.

  • “Again, solid but not spectacular analysis. We appreciate Tony’s candor that before doing MNF he didn’t know 90% of the league.”
  • LE BATARD:3 KORNHEISER:3
  • Significant Game?
    Lakers vs. Cavs

Dan: If Kobe loses does that mean the Lakers don’t believe they can beat the Cavs in the Finals? There are only five teams that can win the NBA championships.
Tony: It could be a big game because you don’t want to lose twice to Cleveland. In that sense it could be a relatively big game. KObe and LeBron should demand that the Most Valuable Puppets be removed from the air. They are awful. They demean them and look nothing like them.

  • “Tony loses all of his points for his hatred towards the Most Valuable Puppets. Le Bartard loses two points for not contributing and saying five teams can win NBA championship when there’s only four.”
  • LE BATARD:1 KORNHEISER:0
  • Punishment For Cursing At Fan?
    Glenn Davis curses at fan.

Dan: I don’t think so but this is a league that punishes you if your turtle neck isn’t right. All he had to do was tell someone to get the fan out of here.
Tony: Doc Rivers should fine Davis as an object lesson to say this is not how we’re going to react. If you’re nickname is “Big Baby” the last thing you want to act like is a big baby.

  • “The hosts were nearly out of touch. Fans should be able to say whatever they want(within reason and in the bounds of decency). Davis should be fined heavily. No points awarded because neither host expressed that important opinion.”

    FIVE GOOD MINUTES

    Ron Jaworski

    1. In Jets and Colts, you absolutely you learn a lot from previous match-ups. I don’t look at the score but the match-ups and I believe the Jets can run.
    2. But running the ball will just keep Jets close they have to manufacture points.
    3. Wayne won many times against Revis.
    4. The key of the game is Dallas Clark.
    5. I like Colts to win, 21-17.
    6. I don’t think Vikings and Saints is all about Favre and Brees. I think it will be about pass rush.
    7. The defensive line that plays better wins the game.
    8. He’s not a bust he’s a satellite back. Last week, Bush became James Brown.
    9. I’m leaning towards Saints 27-24.
    10. If they need me to play in the Pro Bowl I can do it! I can still throw 30 to 40 yards and that’s all you need.
    11. Playing in the Pro Bowl is an honor and I don’t know why guys drop out.
  • “Another great segment with Jaworski.”

    ODDS MAKERS?

    Chances UNC Misses The Tournament?

Dan: 80%. In a strong conference you can go 7-9. But I don’t see this team with a signature win.
Tony: 42%. If they keep losing three in the row they will. They better get to 8-8 in conference.

  • “Le Batard screws up the game but first giving 20% they will make tourney. He’s such a disaster. Tony had a string of statistics.”
  • LE BATARD:0 KORNHEISER:2
  • Chances of Bobcats Making Noise in Playoff?

Dan: 0%. It’s not because of Larry Brown but Stephen Jackson. Bobcats are decent. They will make the playoffs but they aren’t going to win in playoffs.
Tony: 52%. They recently won 6 in a row at home and they are 20-19, best ever. All props to Larry Brown.

  • “Tony brought numbers but he didn’t address original topic. Le Batard is right. “
  • LE BATARD:1 KORNHEISER:1
  • Chances Stover Misses FG?

Dan: X-percent. There’s been no time in the league that a team has experienced five missed field goals against. He won’t miss any. I can’t see the board there’s a camera man in the way. What am I doing? Eighty percent?
Tony: 12%. Jets have five straight field goal misses against. I don’t know if he’ll even kick but if he does it will be close.

  • “Both brought statistics but Le Batard once again screws up the game. “
  • LE BATARD:0 KORNHEISER:2
  • Chances Ocho Beats Roddick In Tennis?

Dan: 0%. I’m pretty sucre Roddick knows how to play left handed. He’s a professional tennis player.
Tony: 2%. The key is Roddick has to play lefty. How will he get power on his serve. This is some sort of bet but Roddick volunteered to play lefty so that suggest he knows how to play left handed.

  • “Kornheiser analysis was way to extensive. This is a joke. He didn’t need to parse the math cup.”
  • LE BATARD:0 KORNHEISER:1
  • Reali: Kornheiser the winner!

    ERRORS

Reali: Video killed the radio star.

    SHOUT OUTS
