Kornheiser Suspended By ESPN, Unfortunately Not Forever

ESPN has suspended Tony Kornheiser from hosting Pardon The Interruption because of comments he made last week about SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm and her raiments. The duration of Kornheiser’s suspension is two weeks.

Recently, PTI host Tony Kornheiser (left) derided Hannah Storm's sartorial decisions.

Last week, during his ESPN Radio Show in Washington D.C., Kornheiser objectified Storm by making disparaging remarks about her appearance.

Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She’s got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt … way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now.

She’s got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body … I know she’s very good, and I’m not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won’t … but Hannah Storm … come on now! Stop! What are you doing?

She’s what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point.

Of course if Storm had worn the same outfit while on the West Coast, Kornheiser would have never even noticed her.

On February 23rd, 2010, Kornheiser said the following during his radio show:

As a result of this, I have been sent to sidelines from PTI for a while and when I’m allowed back on PTI, I will happily go back because I love the PTI show and love all the people on the PTI show.

I’ve said about 1,000 times, while doing radio in my life, the following sentence: if you put a live microphone in front of somebody, eventually, that person will say something wrong. This was one of the times I said something wrong. Beyond that, you can call me and ask me for comment. I’m not going to do it. It seems to me that, without any question, I broke the rules and this is the punishment that’s come.

It’s even more offensive that after belittling a colleague and reduces her to a mere sex object, Kornhesier would then blow off the incidence as the fault of his jam-packed hosting schedule.

Using Kornheiser’s logic, offensive comments are not a product of low moral character but the result of spending too much time on the air.

This type of thinking is typical of Kornheiser who lives in a world of no consequences and subjective morality.

What he fails to realize is most people can spend an entire life time speaking into a microphone and never say anything egregious, offensive, or insulting. That’s because most people know right from wrong and they know the difference ALL THE TIME.

In other words, Kornheiser should respect Hannah Storm all the time, not just at the beginning of his shift.

Bombastic Sports calls for ESPN to terminate Tony Kornheiser. Or, since his current contract is about to expire, we implore the network not resign him.
